Security of hazardous goods transports
SECURITY MEASURES IN ACCORDANCE WITH CHAPTER 1.10 ADR / RID (“SECURITY”)
Following the events of 11 September 2001, international regulations were drawn up to provide security in the event of terrorist attack on the transport of hazardous goods by road, rail and sea. The corresponding UN recommendations were adopted as a new ADR/RID chapter 1.10 (“Security”), which came into effect for ADR and RID as of 01.01.2005. You can download chapter 1.10 here .
For Kombiverkehr, there is now a requirement to obtain proof of identity from the carrier collecting loading units with hazardous goods at terminals. In order to avoid delays in handling at German transhipment terminals, Kombiverkehr will support the documentation of collector with the aid of a driver database. This provides information on drivers and collectors who are authorised by you. Some of our UIRR partner companies already use similar identification checking procedures. We are trying to agree comparable procedures with our other partners. As this measure contributes at the same time to further improving protection against theft, we are also applying it for non-hazardous goods transports, above and beyond the legal requirements.
We rely on the support of our customers in order to build up this database. Customers are therefore requested to send us the necessary details before commencing any transport. Please use the driver database form to do so.
In specific cases, drivers collecting units may also verify their identity either by producing official means of identification or by means of a written proof of identity issued by the invoice recipient. A proof of identity form for collection can be downloaded here.
